HOW LONG DOES A HAIR TRANSPLANT TAKE?

A hair, or beard, transplant is done in one day, and usually takes several hours. The patient arrives at the clinic in the morning and is usually on their way home by mid-afternoon.

Before the actual transplant surgery begins, the patient meets with the medical team to discuss and create the final design of the hair or beard transplant.  Some designs take a few minutes, some take upwards of an hour. We encourage our patients to take their time during the design, because the transplant is permanent. Once the patient gives final approval of the design, then the patient is taken to the surgery room for the procedure.

There are two parts of the transplant.  The first part of the transplant is called “harvesting” where the hairs from the back of the head are extracted.  The second part is called “implanting,” where those extracted hairs are implanted into the thinning or bald areas where the patient is looking to fill in.  It is simply relocating your hair from one part of your head to another part. The hair for either a hair or beard transplant comes from the same area.

The patient is awake during the entire procedure and is given local anesthesia.  The patient can listen to music, watch TV, or simply close their eyes and rest.

Between the harvesting and the implanting, there is usually a short break, and the clinic will provide the patient with a sandwich of choice.

When the procedure is over, the patient will be given a post-surgery kit with post-care instructions.

The patient can drive themselves to and from the surgery, or arrange a drive share, family member or friend to drive them.
